Montgomery Fingerless Mitts

I'd seen a pattern for Montgomery Mitts & a Scarf on Ravelry, and finished the scarf no problems (adding my own variation of just using the pattern for the beginning then knitting in stockinette in the middle and ending back on the pattern.)

I'd come to follow the pattern for the Mittens however and noticed it was to be worked in the round, I'm still new to knitting and haven't quiet figured out working in the round yet but managed to adapt the pattern slightly to suit my beginner needs.

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/montgomery-fingerless-mitts Is the original pattern.

I cast on 28 stitches as per the instructions on 5mm needles and pretty much followed the same pattern I'd used on the scarf instead.

st stitch
k knit
p purl
k2tog put the tip of right needle through the first two needles on the left needle and knit them together
yo bring yarn from back to front over right needle

Rows 1-4: Knit.
Row 5: *Yo, K2tog, yo; rep to end of the row, (also ensure you still have 28st remaining)
Rows 6-9: Knit.
Rows 10, 12, 14: Purl.
Row 11, 13: Knit.

This made about an inch thick border, from Row 15 onwards I carried on in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl the next) until I'd got about 7inches of stockinette, before repeating the above 14 rows.

Once i completed that I cast off, sowed up the sides leaving an inch hole just underneath one of the borders to make the thumb hole.
